In reading the last wee section (chapter 4) of the Book of Jonah you get the answer to the question from yesterday, “What is this Book about?”
It is a story that God will not be contained by one group or tribe but is indeed the God of all creation. It was written in a time of nationalistic and religious fervour, during the period of Ezra/Nehemiah and is in fact a piece of satire. The writer, in naming the book after Jonah, a minor prophet, who had lived about 300 years earlier (2nd Kings:14:25) was poking fun and ridiculing the then current state of affairs.
It is comical but it contains a very serious message about our God.
