1st Corinthians 12:4-13
Paul’s great direction to the church at Corinth that all have a part to play.
It would appear that some thought their particular gifts, which might have been their wisdom, or their ability to prophesy (preach would possibly ne better here) or to bring healing put them in a slightly higher place in the community of Christians than others. They saw their gifts in some hierarchical status league. Paul, here is saying the very opposite: their gifts were all essential but none more important than any other. Interestingly the gift of speaking in tongues comes at the end of his list.
This is his great ‘body’ metaphor and it is a wonderful way of describing the contribution of the many to the community as a whole.
