Romans 3:1-8
This little piece could be a debate Paul is having with someone questioning whether or not it had been advantageous being a Jew rather than a Gentile. It was a debate going on within the early church at a whole variety of levels.
Paul, here, is saying that the Jews had a special place in God’s plan. They were special but it was special responsibility not privilege. They had been given the 10 Commandments and some failed to keep them. Was all Israel condemned? No, Paul believed that there was a faithful remnant but because the nation had failed God gave the message to the Gentiles that they might show his love in the world. God kept faith with humanity by giving us His Son.
