St John 12:20-36
In this passage some Greeks have been brought to meet Jesus. They had possibly heard him teach in the Court of the Gentiles at the Temple. Jesus goes on to explain to all the people crowding around him, that day, that, “the Son of Man”, another title (from the Book of Daniel) for their messiah, would lead them into glory, not as some conquering warrior - the traditional expectation, but rather his glory would lie in giving his life that others might know true life is a life lived in love and communion with God.
Who are the people who are giving their lives today that others may live? We will probably not remember their names but these are the people who are living out this passage in our own troubled time.
