Acts 2:37-47
Peter’s sermon on the day of Pentecost. The people, on hearing Peter speak, took to heart his call to repent of their (even passive) part in the crucifixion of Jesus and to receive baptism. Echoes of John the Baptist here (“repent and be baptised”). A huge number (3000) became members of the community that day and the church enjoyed a golden period when people were generous in sharing all they had with each other. As a consequence of their shared faith and living more people joined and the numbers continued to grow. It was a very healthy church and Luke was right to look back on it with some satisfaction.
