Romans 9:14-29
You will detect something of yesterday’s reading in this passage – “Remnant Theory” again. The just will be saved and the wicked condemned. It is however more troubling in that Paul argues God can do with us whatever He will because he is the “potter” who has shaped us and if the pot is flawed then the potter would destroy it and start again. Not an easy read, is it? This is complex stuff. God had, in the Old Testament, punished Israel at various times in her history and Paul here is stating, whether we find it acceptable or not to our modern understanding of humanity, this will always be the case. Paul we must remember was writing at a personal level because as a Jew he was part of that “elect” who now were being rejected by God in favour of the new community in Christ. As I said not an easy read.
