2nd Timothy 1:8-12
The letters to Timothy, Paul’s trusted friend and acolyte, but more importantly, faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ
.
Paul is in prison and he asks Timothy never to be ashamed of the gospel or of Paul himself, a prisoner for the sake of the gospel. Paul reminds Timothy they have been called by the grace of God, not because they are worthy, but because God’s grace is so merciful, and called to live lives that reflect God’s holiness in the world. It is by the saving power of Christ Jesus, who overcoming death in the resurrection, that Paul has been called to be an ambassador for his kingdom.
By the same token we also are to live holy lives and so be Christ’s witnesses in our day.
