Hebrews 1:1-4
This letter to a group of “Hebrew” Christians (Jewish background in other words) very quickly asserts its claim to belong to the God of Israel. The writer speaks of God speaking to his ancient people through the utterances and works of the prophets of the Old Testament but in His Son, Jesus, who is the very essence of God and whose very living bore the stamp of God’s presence we have the fulfilment of God’s Word for us.
It is a magnificent opening to a letter – it oozes grandeur and yet it does so with such simplicity and economy of words..
