2nd Corinthians 2:12-17
Paul has been anxious that Titus has not returned to tell him how things are in Corinth. He is certain though, that, like a Roman General arriving in Triumph in Rome, the Word of God in Christ Jesus offers a sweet fragrance to those rejoicing. The same fragrance (life) means death to those who refuse to believe. The sweet smell of the incense is believed to be pleasing to God. It is a wee bit more complicated than that but this is the gist of this passage. Remember this the next time you go into an Anglican or Roman Catholic Church and smell incense.
