Hebrews 11:23-29

In the story (history) of every people there are those who are “legend”. In the Scottish story it might be William Wallace or Robert Bruce or David Livingston. It could be many others in between such as John Knox or Adam Smith the economist. Whoever it is they inspire people, exemplify a spirit or give identity. For the Hewbrews their story had Moses away up there. He had been born and nurtured for the first years of his life in a clandestine operation; he had become the adopted son of the pharaoh of the day; he had heard God’s call and led his people to liberation and he defeated the enemies of God when the Red Sea overwhelmed them by the power of God. He did this in faith and it was his faith in God and his faithfulness to God that made him the stuff of legend. As Bruce is the stuff of legend in that he embodied something about this land so Moses, who was far greater, embodied the spirit of the relationship between God and his ancient people. This is waht the writer of the letter to the Hebrews is syaing.
