Acts 5:17-26
This passage is part of a much longer story (Acts chapters 4 and 5) It is a story about the troubles people can experience in proclaiming Jesus as Saviour. The apostles Peter and John were imprisoned, flogged, re-arrested and vilified for being faithful disciples (or in the view of the Sanhedrin) blasphemers. They persisted in their calling to tell of the love of God through Jesus and the religious authorities just could not accept this.
The writer of the Acts is telling us not to be surprised should we encounter opposition and persecution for our witness to Christ. In our day in this country it might not be persecution although there is a degree of vilification but more likely indifference.
