Having made the case that Jesus was greater than all the prophets the writer now goes on to state Jesus was greater than all the angels. We have a funny response to the word angel. For many in the New Testament and even before the angels were part of the household of God and indeed messengers of God, Isaiah 6 where the prophet speaks of the seraphim or of Gabriel in the story of the Annunciation from Luke 1:26-38. The angelic host sang at the birth of the Child in Bethlehem. The writer of the Letter to the Hebrews was stating that Jesus was greater than all things- he is indeed One with God
