Revelation 16:8-21

You would certainly not let young children read this stuff – it is so graphic and scary. I suspect a lot of the sci-fi or future adventure movies made in the past number of years use Revelation to give colour and dynamic to their plot. This is the stuff of the movies in every sense yet it is also about the trajectory of humanity – glorious destruction or sanctity and safety. This passage speaks of the fears of being overwhelmed by the forces of the east – do not take this literally, but rather by a force beyond them something so fearful they should quake in their shoes. In this passage also we have the name of the place, area where the final battle between good and evil will take place.
Why do we read it? Because it gives illustration to the mind of the late 1st century AD and just how dramatic the conflict between God and Satan was seen. Powerful stuff but as I said not for the kids before going to bed.
