Mair Crouch
I was delighted to be been invited to share my 5 favourite Desert Island Discs with you.
1. Hen Wlad fy Nhadau My accent gives me away as being born in Wales! Welsh is still my first language. When I went up University in London in my late teens, it came as a great shock to discover that I would need to speak a foreign language!

2. Heno Heno When my sons were babies, I used to sing this lullaby to them. It will remind me of the huge joy their births – all three - brought to my life; and continues to do so.

3. Rod Stewart - Forever Young Robin and I are great fans of Rod Stewart and have been to several of his live shows. I have chosen this song - Forever Young- as this is still the way we see ourselves. Rod Stewart - Forever Young (Official Video)

4. Chattanooga Choo Choo One of the joys over the years has been to have been a member of the singing group – The Sixes and Sevens – thank you girls. This was one of our songs. Chattanooga Choo Choo - The Andrews Sisters and the Glen Miller Band.

5. Verdi Requiem - Dies Irae I have sung in some form or other over the years – from competing as a 5 year old in the Eisteddfod at my chapel, Capel y Groes, which was established by my family in 1802. I have sung this with the RNSO Choir - a magnificent experience. I chose this version as I can pretend that I am in a choir being conducted by a very enthusiastic Giulini. You never know perhaps I will be able to persuade Hutchesons Choral Society to take it on, once we can return to rehearsals. Verdi Requiem - Dies Irae - Carlo Maria Giulini - 1964 London.

Your book & why
I am presuming that the island will have The Bible and Shakespeare’s complete works – so I will read these. My choice of book is ‘ Man’s search for meaning by Viktor E Frankl’ for the moments of despair when missing all that is dear. It was an immense read – to discover the strength of man to overcome such treatment during the Holocaust. In it, he identifies the need 'to identify a purpose in life to feel positive about, and then to totally immerse the self to imagining that outcome'. I do not think I will need to re-read it, merely holding the book will be enough.
Your luxury item & why
Luxury Silk pyjamas which will protect me from the sun but also I can imagine that I am on the island enjoying a luxury holiday.
