Vonda Shepard – Hooked on a Feeling
Most couples have a song that’s for them. For me and Robert this is it. Just says it all. We have seen Vonda several times, and even had exchanges on Face book! She was in a TV show called Ally McBeal, some of you may remember it from the 90’s! This song also featured in Guardians of the Galaxy, which is part of the Marvel series of movies. In our house Marvel movies are a big thing. Everyone has their favourite (I’m an Iron Man fan) so this song covers all the bases!

Eagles - Ol’ 55
As a teenager my favourite bands were The Who, Kiss and the Eagles! The former 2 I don’t listen to as much now, but when I do, they take me straight back to my youth, but the Eagles I listen to frequently. My favourite Eagles song is Best of My Love, but today I’ve picked Ol’ 55. In the current lockdown taking a long drive just isn’t possible but close your eyes when listening to this and you can feel the wind in your hair and the pleasure of being on the road!

I am a huge Take That fan, I’ve seen them live 5 times I think, in various groupings, rewatched the concerts in the cinema with friends and seen theatre productions with their songs. Never Forget is usually how they end shows and just has such a good feel about it. If you don’t know the hand clapping movements, just ask for a demo the next time we meet.

Jessie Buckley – Glasgow (No Place Like Home). I am also a big country fan, ask any of the kids when they check out my Spotify playlist. I like modern country especially. My second favourite TV show is Nashville (my favourite is The West Wing) and the clue about what the show is about is in the name. This song however is from a movie called Wild Rose, much of the film is set in Pollokshields. Definitely for me, home. I feel very fortunate to live here, such a beautiful green place. In this time where we can’t see people in the way we would like there is still such a community feeling with WhatsApp groups, the NHS clap with neighbours, the church website, we are still a strong community and this song just reminds me of how lucky we are.

Here I am, Lord – Sound of Worship.
This was one of my mum’s favourites so is also one of mine. I would have liked a version of our choir singing this but didn’t have one. Usually it brings a tear to my eye so if you see me sniffling in church when this is playing its just happy memories! Music in our church plays such an important and beautiful part in our worship that finding one piece was very difficult but this hymn is a personal favourite. As Robert says, he can always tell the ones I really like because the hymn book is not needed, I just belt it out, apologies to those sitting in front in me!

My favourite book would be The Stand (extended version) by Stephen King. I have been a Stephen King fan for many, many years and have read and reread this book many times. My brother-in-law introduced me to Stephen King when I was a teenager and he was probably the first adult author I read, since then I’ve always got a book on the go.

As a luxury I would like a piano with a teach yourself piano book (please). I can’t play any instrument at all and always regret not being able to play anything so learning the piano would be a real luxury.

Hello, Marie! Though you probably know I am a classical pianist and don't tend to listen to a lot of pop music, I did enjoy your choice! As regards your choice of "Here I am Lord" - it was played on TV quite recently by a well known choir leader (whose name I can't recall at the moment!) but, it was very very beautiful, and very moving. As regards your luxury item - well now, there are upsides and downsides to this!! I know this very well, as a trained pianist, no matter where you are, social gathering, party, wedding reception, someone is bound to ask you to play for them, or accompany some singer which in itself can be extremely challenging!! But, if you want to learn to play, I would happily sit with you and give you the basics to get you started!!

Muriel. I'm glad you enjoyed. Thank you for your kind offer. Maybe when lockdown is over I'll be in touch. I can't see anyone
ever asking me to play though! Marie

Loved the selection - you washed me away with ‘here I am lord’
