On the last day of April; where the weather may be changing wherever you are ... I 'd like to share some chalk drawings I noticed while walking into the entrance of Barshaw park over the past few weeks.
So hopefully you'll continue walking and perhaps not see rain drops on roses but still on spring leaves and bright coloured tulips around

1st Peter 2:9-12
Great wee piece about being Christ's people here with a big note of encouragement. As ever, if you have time, look at the Thought on the first page of our website. Enjoy your day. ![]() Happy Birthday COLONEL Tom! Queen promotes Captain Tom Moore in heartwarming honour as the £29m NHS fundraising hero turns 100 today
I must say, having just read Brian's blog of his virtual tour around Bavaria, I thoroughly enjoyed my trip. It looked fantastic and to know that as recently as 1988 Brian was travelling around Europe with his son (but presumably not on a Student Rail Card, much loved by many of us of a certain age) was a delight.
Thanks for the trip I think poetry is beautiful. You can always find a poem to suit your mood whether to make you smile, reflect or provide inspiration. I came across the poem "Leisure" by the Welsh poet W H Davies which is just perfect for the times we are currently experiencing. I hope you all enjoy the sentiment and take time to stand and stare...........
Sending my best wishes to you all, Judith Hume x Today's reading: St John 21:1-14. A resurrection story rooted in what would be considered a real live situation. Fascinating. Read the Thought on the website if you have time.
Enjoy your day Proverbs 8:32-9:6
An invitation to feast on wise counsel. If you have time look at the Thought on first page of website. Enjoy your day While sitting knitting this afternoon, a thought popped into my head.......it was about me chasing a spider round my kitchen! I am not particularly fond of spiders, so I smiled and put that thought to the back of my mind. Then, strangely, when I went into the kitchen this evening to wash up my dinner dishes (and, yes, I really do do the washing up each evening!), I looked down and actually saw a spider running around my kitchen floor. I opened the diningroom window, intent on catching the spider and putting it back outside, but as it was running away from me, it ran under the kitchen door, and, as it were, committed hari kari, as it could not quite get its little fat body under the door! So, do any of you think I might have the gift of second sight.......or what???
Muriel Manning Good morning to everyone on Monday 27th. April
I just want to thank all who are contributing to the chat, creative things to do and well-being blogs for the kirk. It is great to see so many involved. Take care, keep safe and keep connecting. Tom 1st Peter 1:22-2:3
The reading straddles chapters 1 and 2 of 1st letter of Peter. A lot in this: God's Word prevails in all times; As a newborn baby feeds on their mother's milk and grows so those early Christians were to feed on Christ by faith and grow strong. I suppose today it would be like doing spiritual exercise that we can grow in faith. Have a good day At this time of year, when the trees are coming into full leaf , and The blossom trees are in full flower, when the cream and pink petals lie thick upon the ground , I thought I would share a little poem which might make you smile as you and the children kick their way through them.
Ewan Love In the Chestnut woods Someone has a birthday In the chestnut woods, I think For all the chestnut trees are gay With candles pink and white. I thought it was a christening of some small Brownie child But when I asked the keeper man He shook his head and smiled He shook his head, he did, and so I rather think myself It may have been the wedding of a Fairy and an Elf. A fairy wedding in the woods - I,m pretty sure I,m right For underneath the trees I found Confetti pink and white My husband, David and I went for a lovely long walk today. We came across the cutest Shetlands ponies. One of them definitely needed a haircut, which I can relate to!! Hope they put a smile on your face.
Keep safe everyone. Love Judith Hume x I was rather wary of joining the church WhatsApp group but with encouragement from Mags I took the big step and I love it! What better way to start the day other than with a message from Tom. I always read my Bible early morning and late at night but I usually work my way through a particular Book in the Bible or the Psalms. Now in the morning I read Tom’s chosen reading, think about it throughout the day and at night reread it and it has become more meaningful. With Tom’s readings too I have been taken through different Books written at the same time of Jesus’s journey and ones before and ones after his crucifixion . It gives a far better and deeper understanding.
Also I have enjoyed sharing in the news of Jack and Anne Steele’s grand daughter, the birth on 21st April of the Normand’s Grandson, laughing at funny video clips , listening to beautiful music and hearing of radio or tv programmes that I might enjoy. It is wonderful to be linked so instantaneously with everyone. It is also a good link in to remind me of articles and quizzes that are on our church website. So I think we still have a long time ahead indoors but I am enjoying each day. I go to bed at night knowing that there is another groundhog day ahead – nothing changing, and that brings a rather peaceful feeling. I am enjoying being with John. Our daily lives are usually like passing ships. I can’t do anything about the Coronovirus, I can’t help my girls down South, I can’t meet up with friends or family, but I can pray and commune with God. We have been given this very special time and I am using it to walk more closely with him. Good morning to all.
Continuing from yesterday: think about what it means to be holy chapter 1:13-16 of 1st Peter. Morning
1st Peter 1. An interesting little letter about persevering in faith in the face of persecution. We're not facing persecution but we face difficult times. Keep faith. Tom Pam Ayres' Poem
Time for us girls I'm normally a social girl I love to meet my mates But lately with the virus here We can't go out the gates. You see, we are the 'oldies' now We need to stay inside If they haven't seen us for a while They'll think we've upped and died. They'll never know the things we did Before we got this old There wasn't any Facebook So not everything was told. We may seem sweet old ladies Who would never be uncouth But we grew up in the 60s - If you only knew the truth! There was sex and drugs and rock 'n roll The pill and miniskirts We smoked, we drank, we partied And were quite outrageous flirts. Then we settled down, got married And turned into someone's mum, Somebody's wife, then nana, Who on earth did we become? We didn't mind the change of pace Because our lives were full But to bury us before we're dead Is like a red rag to a bull! So here you find me stuck inside For 4 weeks, maybe more I finally found myself again Then I had to close the door! It didnt really bother me I'd while away the hour I'd bake for all the family But I've got no flaming flour! Now Netflix is just wonderful I like a gutsy thriller I'm swooning over Idris Or some random sexy killer. At least I've got a stash of booze For when I'm being idle There's wine and whiskey, even gin If I'm feeling suicidal! So let's all drink to lockdown To recovery and health And hope this awful virus Doesn't decimate our wealth. We'll all get through the crisis And be back to join our mates Just hoping I'm not far too wide To fit through the flaming gates! Good morning everyone. Read Jonah chapter 4 and you will get the answer to, " What is going on in this Book". If you have time look at the Thought for the Day on our welcome page for more details.
Have a good day and please keep safe. Have you ever considered the story of Jonah from the Old Testament? Read the first chapter and ask yourself what is going on here. Have a look at the website if you have time.
Have a good day 1st Corinthians 15:12-20
What does resurrection mean? It was an issue the Corinthian church struggled with hence Paul settling the issue for the whole Church in this passage from his letter to the them. Read the "Thought" on the website for more. I thought I’d drop a note to the contact person in each of the churches who volunteer on a Saturday and kindly ask if you will pass this on to your own group.
Although our building remains closed we are not idle. We are still involved in providing food to those in most need working alone and with our friends in other homeless charities (The Marie Trust, Simon Community Scotland, Social Bite and others). We are giving food provisions, £10 vouchers, underwear/clothing and toiletries) to those who have been given temporary accommodation in many of Glasgow’s empty hotels (especially at weekends when there’s a real gap in services) and we continue to provide food and support 7 days a week for those who for whatever reason cannot cope with being with others in a hotel. We will work with our partners to reach around 50 people each week and will make a greater impact through our combined efforts. I do hope that you are all keeping well and coping with the current difficulties. Among other things our current environment does emphasise the great camaraderie which we have in LHM and hopefully this will return soon. Best wishes to all. Gus PS As church buildings are currently closed it is a little more difficult to communicate with our great supporters. Please pass on our news to as many people as is possible. Thank you. Colossians 4:2-6
Paul, in his letter to the Colossian Church, reminds them never to tire of prayer. They should keep praying as that is the power that will keep them faithful. On the morning of Easter two women going to the tomb are met with the words, "Do not be afraid". Fear of the unknown is a terrible thing but the angel assures them Jesus is risen. See St Matthew 28:1-10
